The tasks of the BBK include coordinating the interests of its regional associations, taking care of the interests of artists in collecting societies , cultural associations and vis-à-vis the Federal Republic of Germany and the parties in the Bundestag .

He represents the professional, social and cultural-political interests of visual artists in Germany vis-à-vis the federal government and the corresponding subordinate authorities, which help determine the framework conditions for artistic professions in domestic, financial and foreign policy and which art in construction is part of the projects of the Federal care.

At the level of the state and district associations, the association offers its members the possibility of individual and group exhibitions and also offers outsiders the opportunity to take part in courses in artistic techniques and other events, such as readings.

organization

About 10,000 visual artists are organized in the BBK via the 15 independent regional associations. The BBK is also active on a European level and promotes the international exchange of exhibitions and symposia through its member associations .

The BBK is the umbrella organization of the regional associations organized as an association, politically independent and democratically organized. It is headed by a seven-member elected board of directors, including two federal chairpersons (Section 26 BGB) and five assessors. The federal chairman and spokeswoman for the federal executive board is Dagmar Schmidt , the second federal chairman is Werner Schaub .

The general assembly consists of the federal delegates of the regional associations according to a membership key; This federal delegate assembly meets every four years, elects the federal executive committee and determines the guidelines of the association's policy. The next federal delegate assembly is in October 2021.

According to the statutes, the decision-making body is the federal committee, which meets once a year, in the period between federal delegate assemblies. All regional associations are represented in the federal committee.

The BBK publishes the quarterly magazine “ kultur politik” .

The federal office of the BBK is in Berlin.
