Edgar Bessen (born November 11, 1933 in Hamburg ; † February 2, 2012 there ) was a German actor . He had his birth name "Beßen" changed by a registry office.

Life & Work

After an apprenticeship as a carpenter Edgar Bessen attended the drama school of Hildburg Frese in Hamburg. Then in 1960 he got an engagement at the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater , where his uncles Henry Vahl and Bruno Vahl-Berg also worked and which was his artistic home until 1979. Through his numerous roles, especially as a partner of Heidi Mahler , as well as many guest performances and television broadcasts by the theater on the NDR , he became known to a large audience nationwide. Here he was one of the audience's favorites and showed his comedic talent in many pieces.

Due to his outward appearance, Bessen was often used in much younger roles. For example, he played Ernst Grabbe's son, who was only seven years older, in the piece Kein Auskommen mit denommen.

Edgar Bessen had been married to his wife Heidi since 1970 and lived with her for more than three decades in the Hamburg district of Poppenbüttel . The actor found his final resting place in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg .
