Die Cleveren is a German television series that was produced from 1998 to 2003 by Studio Hamburg on behalf of RTL . It is about a nationwide operating special unit of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which deals with serial offenders. The main characters are the case analyst Dominik Born and a police officer from the BKA, who coordinates the necessary investigative steps with the local authorities.

occupation

  • Dr. Dominik Born ( Hans-Werner Meyer ) is a case analyst in the service of the Federal Criminal Police Office. He fulfilled a childhood dream with his job, but he still suffers a lot from his work. He was previously married to Helen Born, but the marriage was divorced and his wife moved to Munich with their son Philip. In the fourth season he begins a relationship with his colleague Eva Glaser, after whose tragic death he even tries to commit suicide , shortly afterwards he quits his service at the BKA. The policewoman Isabel Becker persuades Born, who is now alcoholic, to return. He goes on rehab in a monastery and leads a regular life again, but wants to quit for good at the end of the fifth season. In the episode 6x01 on the run , he finds Isabel Becker murdered in a hotel room and is suddenly held responsible for a whole series of murders. Hunted by the BKA officer Katrin Rasch, he tries to prove his innocence, in the second episode the two then become a team. At the end of the sixth season, he gets back together with his ex-wife.
  • Eva Glaser ( Astrid M. Fünderich ) is the first female police officer who, with Dominik Born, is looking for serial offenders. She is chief detective in the service of the Federal Criminal Police Office and begins a relationship with Born at the beginning of the fourth season. When they are looking for a psychopath in episode 4x05 The Goddess - Part 1 , they are supported by the policewoman Isabel Becker. While trying to arrest the perpetrator, Eva Glaser is seriously injured by a gunshot and later dies in hospital.
  • Prof. Konstanze Korda ( Barbara Magdalena Ahren ) is a coroner and supports the serial crime unit. She is one of the best in her field, always dressed expensively and a chain smoker. She is widowed. She has a rather cool relationship with Glaser, but appreciates her work. She has a special relationship with Born. She supports him when he is suspected of having shot Isabel Becker.
  • Isabel Becker ( Delia Mayer ) appears for the first time in episode 4x05 The Goddess - Part 1 as a supporting police officer. After Eva Glaser's death, she takes over her position and takes care of the mentally ailing Born. She is able to prevent his attempted suicide and persuades him to return to the service after his termination. Isabel Becker is married and has two children. Her family gives her strength for her job. In the episode 6x01 on the run , she is murdered and Born is mistakenly suspected of being the culprit.
  • Katrin Rasch ( Esther Schweins ) is chief detective at the BKA and appears for the first time at the beginning of the sixth season. She thinks Dominik Born is a murderer and tries by all means to get her hands on him, but she doesn't succeed. After Born has convinced them of his innocence, they form a team. The relationship between the two is somewhat distant, respectful and determined by a common sense of purpose. Rasch is single, brisk and sensitive.

background

After the fifth season ended on April 30, 2003 with the episode Blood and Water - Part 2 , it took over three years to see the sixth season. RTL stored eight new episodes, which had been completed by 2003, in the archive until September 2006 due to a lack of suitable broadcasting slots, after which they were broadcast in duplicate. RTL stated that a continuation was not planned, but there was an option to produce the series as an irregular film series in the future. However, none of this was realized.

DVD publications

The six seasons (including the pilot film) were released on April 25, 2008 in two boxes. The first box contains seasons 1–3 including the pilot film (7 DVDs), and the second box contains seasons 4–6 (6 DVDs).

Episodes

After the pilot from 1998, a further eight episode series was produced and broadcast annually from 1999, so that the series has a total of 48 episodes and a pilot film. The guest roles are often made up of familiar faces from German television such as Michael Mendl , Annett Renneberg , Suzanne von Borsody or Dieter Pfaff .
