Career

Meyer was discovered in 1992 by Joseph Vilsmaier for the film Charlie & Louise - Das doppelte Lottchen . This was followed by other cinema and television productions such as The Shadow of the Writer and It happened in broad daylight before he left his permanent position at the Schaubühne in 1997 and focused on film. Since then, Meyer has been one of the busiest and most versatile actors of his generation. He has played in around 80 films so far. Among them are 48 episodes of the crime series Die Cleveren , for whose title role the police psychologist Dominik Born received the Bavarian TV Prize in 2000 and was nominated for the German TV Prize in 2000 and 2001 .

In the years that followed, the range of roles became more diverse and included characters as diverse as the long-distance runner Dieter Baumann in I want to run - The Dieter Baumann case , the Prussian officer's son Albrecht Sterenberg, who was slowly going mad, in the historical two-part play The White African, and the loser suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder Thomas Menz in double action - curse of the fire . The role of the charming but highly immoral Robert Falk in the tragicomedy What a beautiful day was followed by a leading role in the international four-part film Imzeichen des Drachen , with the portrayal of the dazzling godfather of an international smuggling syndicate . Also in the spring of 2005, Meyer played the father between grief and overcoming in The Other Half of Happiness , a drama about a kidnapped baby. Since 2012 he can be seen as chief detective Oliver Radek in the television series last trace Berlin (until 2020: 9 seasons with 102 episodes).

Since April 2006 he has been a volunteer member of the board of the Bundesverband Schauspiel (BFFS), the union for actors. He is fighting for a quota for free production companies like those in Great Britain.

Since 2010 he has been an ambassador for the Karl Kübel Prize, which is awarded by the Karl Kübel Foundation for children and families .

As Hoffmann's Alter Ego Kapellmeister Kreisler, he presented the musical worlds of ETA Hoffmann in a congenial way in 2015 in the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin together with the ETA - Hoffmann - Chamber Orchestra Berlin and the Karl Forster Choir.

Hans-Werner Meyer is married to the actress Jacqueline Macaulay and has two children. He is the brother of cabaret artist Chin Meyer . Since 1983 he has performed irregularly with the a cappella group Echo-Echo , since 1999 under the name Meier & die Geier . He hardly has time for his hobbies of singing and sailing.
