action
Victoria Stellmann is the head of the cruise line Stellmann Cruises , in which her brother Ansgar also works. She lives with her husband Kai, a doctor, and their children Zoë and Henri in a noble villa. She is respected and popular in specialist circles. One day she goes to the coast for the annual meeting of the Nautical Society, where she is invited to speak. In the hotel, she first bumps into another guest, who ultimately turns out to be her roommate, and later gets to know the investment banker Jacques Oberländer. He is charming and takes her out to eat. Later they both walk along the beach and go ice skating together. Victoria is taken with Jacques' gracious attention, but pulls back when he tries to kiss her. She also declines his offer to use her name, but accepts his business card. Back home, she does not report about her new acquaintance.
She becomes restless when her children speak of a "dog catcher" near the property. At a vernissage that she and her husband attended, Victoria apparently met Jacques again by chance, who flirted with her and secretly gave her a concert ticket at the end. He noted on it that he liked it. Victoria goes to the concert with him. He later accompanies her home and kisses her. She makes it happen. A few days later she goes to her holiday home in Ahrenshoop , where she checks the shipping company's balance sheets. Suddenly Jacques is at the door. At first she is irritated and scared because he seems to follow her everywhere, but in the end she succumbs to his charm. They both love each other in the house. A short time later, Victoria received a shipment to her workplace containing a ransom note and a memory stick. There is a video on the stick that shows Victoria making love with Jacques in the holiday villa. A little later, the blackmailer demands 500,000 euros in hush money. Victoria desperately confides in Jacques, who promises to contact the blackmailers and negotiate directly with them.
Because Victoria cannot withdraw the requested money at once, Jacques reacts indignantly. Victoria has doubts, especially since he received her on a yacht, but is obviously not even able to make coffee in the galley. She investigates Jacques' company and finds out that it is a mailbox company . At the conference venue, she learns that Jacques checked in with a certain Mr. Schmidt - Victoria's roommate. When she receives a text message from Jacques informing her that the blackmailers have increased her claim to two million euros, Victoria has had enough. She confesses her affair to her husband. Then she goes to the police and reports Jacques. It turns out that his real name is Karl, has cheated people out of their money several times. The scam is new, however. Victoria is unsure whether she really wants to work with the police, in which case her good reputation and with it the reputation of her company, which relies on the aspect of the solid family as an advertising strategy, would be destroyed. She hands over the management of Stellmann Cruises to her brother, who had wanted a different company policy for a long time, but always failed because of her resistance.
One day Zoë doesn't come home. She was picked up from school by Jacques, who has since won the children's trust. Although she comes home in the evening and is enthusiastic about the day with Jacques, Victoria and Kai recognize that the faked kidnapping was a clear warning sign from Jacques. Kai initially takes the children up with his mother and moves out of the common house. Victoria is now working closely with the police and is willing to hand over the money. The suitcase is equipped with a tracking device and Victoria is monitored by numerous police officers during the handover. She is picked up by Mr. Schröder, who leads her to a secluded property. Here Victoria meets Jacques, who is arrested shortly afterwards by the police.
In the next few days, the public will find out about the case and Victoria's infidelity will be the subject of all newspapers. Because it is reported there that Jacques graduated from Harvard, Victoria has the university yearbooks brought to her. She now realizes that Jacques and her brother Ansgar are fellow students. He put Jacques on them and forced the scandal to take over the management of Stellmann Cruises . At the trial Victoria testifies against Jacques and emphasizes how important her family is to her. At the end of the first day of the trial, she went to her car, surrounded by the press. Suddenly she sees Kai who was at the trial. He gets her into his car and she smiles gratefully at him. They drive away together.
production
Do you know your lover? was filmed under the working title Eiswind from February to March 2011 in Berlin , Rostock , Warnemünde and on the Darß . Funda Dag created the costumes, Detlef Provvedi created the film structures .
The film was inspired by the affair around BMW heiress Susanne Klatten , who was blackmailed by her lover, who in turn was convicted in 2009 with great public interest. In the opening credits of the film, reference is made to the purely fictional content of the film. "So that nobody can claim that the story of Susanne Klatten is being told, the script was specifically checked to ensure that Klatten's distance was sufficient - this is to avoid any lawsuits," wrote Der Spiegel in 2011.
The film had its television premiere on January 12, 2012 on the First . With 5.28 million viewers and a market share of 16.2 percent, it was the most watched TV show of the day.
