Nina and Robert von der Heyden have been married to each other for 16 years. It was a happy but also full of privation for Nina, as her life in the past few years was limited to being a housewife. So she had to give up her job as a lawyer for her husband's sake. However, since he promised her that after three terms as mayor he would not run for a fourth, Nina always withdrew from herself. When she now learns from television that her husband Robert, contrary to his promise, is standing up for election again, she bursts her collar. And it gets worse, because she catches her husband having an affair with his French PR advisor Jacqueline.
Nina actually just wants to leave. But this false grin on the election posters of her husband and her old party friend Philipp convince her to put herself up as a candidate. In doing so, she can fall back on her experience as a local politician, where she was primarily active in the organic movement. The election campaign between two married couples for power is being promoted by the press and especially exploited. Alice, the couple's daughter, is not very enthusiastic about it. When Nina is also able to uncover an environmental scandal in which her husband is not entirely uninvolved, the mud battles and projections enter the decisive phase.
