The Bundesverband Schauspiel e. V. , or BFFS for short , with more than 3,500 members in Germany is the professional association with the largest number of members in the German cinema and television landscape and the largest actors' organization.

Emergence

In April 2006 the BFFS was founded as an association at the suggestion of the actors' section of the German Film Academy . This closed a gap that had long been gaping. Most of the other artists and cultural workers were already organized in relevant professional associations. The BFFS founding members were Jasmin Tabatabai , Antje Schmidt , Michael Brandner , Matthias Brandt , Oliver Broumis , Hans-Werner Meyer and Herbert Knaup .

Launched as the Federal Association of Film and Television Actors , hence the abbreviation BFFS , it was renamed the Federal Drama Association on May 11, 2014, and is now the federal association for all “permanent” and “free” actors and responsible for all Areas: stage, film, television and language.

In 2018 the BFFS merged with the Synchronous Actors Interests Association (IVS).

Activity of the BFFS

In April 2006, several German actors founded an independent, nationwide organization with the aim of representing acting interests vis-à-vis politics, broadcasters, authorities, film companies as well as theater institutions and other associations. In May 2008, on the initiative of the BFFS, it was officially clarified that actors must be insured for the entire duration of their engagement and not just on the individual shooting days . In June 2009 the German Bundestag passed an amendment to the Unemployment Benefit 1 regulation , which aims to alleviate the social disadvantage of actors and other short-term employees.

Collective bargaining

The BFFS formed an alliance with Verdi in July 2010 and began collective bargaining with the producer alliance . Thus, the BFFS was recognized not only in accordance with the statutes, but also practically by the previous collective bargaining partners as the professional union of actors. With the protest campaign "I am cheap" at the German Television Prize , the BFFS contributed to the establishment of the German Academy for Television in October 2010 .

In May 2013, the BFFS signed its first collective bargaining agreement , which was also the first to provide copyright-based follow-up payments for film creatives and others who worked for the duration of the production. a. for actors regulated. In June, the first joint remuneration rules were signed with a broadcasting group, ProSiebenSat.1 Media . An entry fee, which must not be undercut for productions of the group, as well as a quota-dependent follow-up payment were agreed. In December, the first collective agreement was signed specifically for actors. Among other things, an entry fee was introduced, which generally must not be undercut during filming.

German actor award

The BFFS held its first German Actor Award in February 2012 . In May and June 2012, BFFS members were elected to the GVL Advisory Board and to the General Assembly of the Broadcasting Pension Fund .
