Echo-Echo , also known as Echo Echo , was a German a cappella quartet that broke up in 1988. Since 1999 the reunited group has been performing under the name Meier & die Geier .

history

The group Echo-Echo was formed in 1983. Hans-Werner Meyer , then 18 years old , had gotten to know the “ barbershop ” during a summer stay in the USA , an a cappella singing with a four-part chord on each syllable leading to the few original American styles of music count. He then founded the a cappella group Echo-Echo with three classmates from the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium in Hamburg . Valentin Gregor , Christian Taube and Volker Dittmann belonged to the group from the beginning .

The group first performed in pedestrian zones in Hamburg before being discovered by producer Jörn Christoph Seelenmeyer . He produced the single Nur dein Clown with them in 1984 , a German-language cover of the title Only You in the version of the Flying Pickets . The single reached number 27 on the German airplay charts in 1984 and on May 26, 1984 won the golden one in Dieter Thomas Heck'sZDF Hit Parade ”.

More singles followed: in 1984 every day with you , the German version of the Police hit Every Breath You Take , and in 1987 the German version of the 1986 title Caravan of Love by the Housemartins , in turn a cover of the Isley Brothers' title of the same name . However, they could not build on the success of the debut song. In 1988 the band split up. Ten years later they got together again at the request of the artistic director of the Altona Theater, Axel Schneider, who signed them up for a New Year's concert on January 1st, 1999. The performance was well received, so that Echo-Echo was reorganized in 1999 under the name Meier & die Geier. The first joint album Friendship appeared 2,001th
