Double use was a German crime series about a team of police officers. The series played in Hamburg and was broadcast by RTL .

production

Double use was one of the first German crime series in which two female police officers played the leading roles. The series was produced by Studio Hamburg on behalf of RTL . Producer Renate Kampmann commissioned the authors Michael Arnal and Xao Seffcheque with the conception of the series; they also wrote the scripts for the first four films. At the time, the working title was "Blood and Fire" - the motto of the Salvation Army. Because originally it was supposed to be a series about the Salvation Army in which two female commissioners happened to appear as minor characters. The first three seasons consisted of 45 minute long episodes. In 1994, when the role of Tina Zimmermann was kidnapped on the RTL soap Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten , Sabrina and Vicky found out - Sabrina got a bigger supporting role and also investigated in 1995 at GZSZ in the bombing story. From season 4 onwards, there were only between three and seven episodes that were extended to a feature length (90 minutes). The first episode aired on September 20, 1994. For a short time there were also two offshoots called Double Use Berlin and Double Use Munich , which were less successful and were soon discontinued. On August 8, 2007, RTL announced that it would not shoot any new episodes of the crime series. The series was thus discontinued after 13 years. The reason given by RTL was that the series could no longer match the quotas it had before. However, the last season was not broadcast as usual in January / February at 8:15 p.m., but in July (summer slump) after prime time at 10:15 p.m.

Another reason was that the actress Despina Pajanou no longer wanted to play the role of Sabrina Nikolaidou. Less was announced about further reasons, and RTL put the decline in ratings in the foreground.

Since the end of 2007, the branch broadcaster RTL Crime has broadcast the series from the start.

Since June 2016, the series has been broadcast on the branch channel RTLplus , every Tuesday at 8:15 p.m.

Locations

When used twice, the focus was on authenticity. Many scenes are shot at original locations such as the Hamburg neighborhood . The office of the two main actresses, Kriminalkommissariat 15 (KK 15), merged in 2005 with the police station 15, the famous Davidwache on St. Pauli . Under the roof of the Davidwache, both offices form what is now the Police Department 15 .

characters

Sabrina Nikolaidou

Despina Pajanou is the actress who has played the detective commissioner (later chief detective) Sabrina Nikolaidou since the first episode. Her partners have changed several times over the years. Your character is always a little rebellious and reluctant to submit to rules, which often leads to conflicts with her colleagues and superiors. However, in problematic situations you can also fully count on their support. When she has got something on her mind, she will do it. Often no one can prevent them, not even their colleagues.

Sabrina lives alone, but has already had some relationships. She even becomes pregnant, but loses the child in an accident. After a young policewoman was killed by the instructions she gave, she agreed to a brief tête-à-tête with a witness, but later discovered that she was not quite as innocent as it appears.

Victoria "Vicky" Siebert

Eva Scheurer played Commissioner Victoria "Vicky" Siebert in 1994/1995 (season 1/2). She was killed during an operation against explosives smugglers when explosives exploded in a car she was hiding behind. Ironically, this happened during an undercover assignment by Sabrina's new colleague Eva Lorenz. She was engaged to Stefan Löffler.

Eva Lorenz

Sylvia Haider embodied in the years 1995–1999 (seasons 2–5) the detective commissioner (from seasons 3, detective chief commissioner) Eva Lorenz. At first, Sabrina thought she was Vicky Siebert's murderer, but this turned out to be wrong. One episode later, she helped Sabrina to find a missing baby and switched to KK 15. Eva was accidentally hit by a bullet from Sabrina's service weapon that ricocheted off during a shootout with a suspect in the episode "Anesthesia in the afterlife" , hit in the shoulder and seriously injured, but survived. In the episode "The Murderer with the Mask" she acted together with Sabrina and other colleagues as a decoy for a wanted rapist. The plan went wrong, however, because her colleagues believed a handbag thief who had attacked Sabrina to be the rapist they were looking for. She fell into the clutches of the perpetrator and was raped by him as well. This experience was pretty tough on her, but after a while she managed to come to terms with what had happened. In the episode "Eva's Death" she was shot in the chest in the presence of her colleague Sabrina.

Eva was married to Helmut Lorenz and had their son Daniel with him.

Ellen Ludwig

Sabrina Nikolaidou's next colleague was Detective Inspector Ellen Ludwig, played by Petra Kleinert . She was in the years 1999-2004 (seasons 6-10) in the series. Ellen Ludwig died in a plane crash (in season 11, but no longer appears as a character in season 11).

She was married to Thomas Ludwig.

Caroline Behrens

In 2005 (season 11-13) the actress Eva Herzig played the detective inspector Caroline "Caro" Behrens.

Renate Wilkerling

In 2005 the actress Brigitte Böttrich played the character of Renate Wilkerling.

Roland Winter

Jürgen Schornagel played the detective inspector Roland Winter. Winter was a bit racist and rough, but occasionally showed nice sides. He was prejudiced and therefore often had trouble with his colleagues, but for Sabrina he was a real friend. He was always dressed in a shirt, hat, tie and a dark jacket. In the episode "The Murderer in You" he committed suicide because he was exposed as the murderer "The Viper" by Ellen Ludwig.

Winter was never married and had no children.

Dilba

Dilba, played by Jockel Tschiersch , is a detective chief and quite lazy. He only works what is necessary and was only promoted to chief detective so that a new post could be filled. He often argues with his colleague Winter. Dilba has a sister.

Jensen

Chief Detective Jensen is played by Gerhard Garbers and is head of the KK15. A common saying from Jensen is: "I am expected to say a few words about it."

Mike Lehmann

Mike, played by Konstantin Graudus , is a colleague and good friend of Sabrina. In the episode "Long Saturday" he came out as gay.

Peter Ahlers

Kriminalhauptmeister Ahlers, played by Hans-Jürgen Janza , acts as the reception secretary at KK15 and is often used for research purposes. He has a daughter named Trixi.

Manfred Vossbrink

Max Gertsch was there as Manfred Vossbrink from season 1 to season 2.

DVD release

After the broadcast of the last season, a DVD box of Doppelter Einsatz was released under the name Doppelter Einsatz Best Of Vol. 1 . This DVD box contains four TV films in the series ( Die Todfreundin , Blood Red Moon , Long Saturday and The Truth Dies Last ). There was no further publication of the series. RTL gave the reason that the DVD box was below sales expectations. However, RTL never advertised the DVD box.
