Hildburg Frese (born August 26, 1915 ; † June 16, 2002 ) was a German actress and theater teacher.

She started her career at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven . From 1930 to 1950 the character actress was engaged at the major theaters in Berlin , Bremen , Dresden , Breslau and Hamburg . She worked with famous colleagues such as Martin Held , Rudolf Platte and Erik Ode ; with the latter two at the Berlin Volksbühne under Eugen Klöpfer .

Her second career began in 1958/59 when she founded the Frese drama studio , which produced many well-known actors. She ran the studio with a hard hand for 40 years. The saying "If you can do it at Frese, you can do it at the theater too" became legendary.

Her students include Edgar Bessen , Imke Büchel , Till Demtrøder , Marlies Engel , Stephan Kampwirth , Karim Köster , Doris Kunstmann , Volker Lechtenbrink , Milan Pešl , Peter Roggisch , Jens Scheiblich , Marion von Stengel , Victoria Voncampe and Helmut Zierl .

On her 80th birthday, Hildburg Frese was awarded the Biermann Ratjen Medal for life's work , the city of Hamburg's highest cultural honor. In 1999 she transferred the management of the drama studio to director Jürgen Hirsch .
