Marlies Engel

Marlies Engel (born April 16, 1943 in Hamburg ) is a German actress .

Life

Marlies Engel grew up in Hamburg. After completing secondary school , she completed an acting training, also in Hamburg . She had her first permanent theater engagement from 1963 to 1966 at the Stadttheater Flensburg . From 1966 to 1972 she was a member of the ensemble at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg . Engel had guest contracts at the Burgtheater and the Akademietheater in Vienna . In the 1972/73 season she was a guest at the Renaissance Theater in Berlin .

Engel played a wide repertoire on the stage , which included plays by William Shakespeare , the German authors of the Classical and Romantic periods , the theater of the turn of the century , but also pieces from modern and contemporary theater.

Among other things, she played Rosalinde in As You Like It , Hero in Much Ado About Nothing , both plays by William Shakespeare , Gretchen in Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Princess Eboli in Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller , and Solveig in Peer Gynt , Regine in Gespenster and Hilde in Baumeister Solness , all by Henrik Ibsen , the title role in Saint Joan by George Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Molloy in the musical Hello Dolly! by Jerry Herman .

Marlies Engel gained fame primarily through her numerous television roles. She took on several continuous series roles, recurring episode roles and guest roles. Engel played her first television roles in the 1960s. From the 1970s she was then regularly seen in television films and television series.
