The man on the high seat is an episode of the ARD crime series Tatort . The episode produced by Südwestfunk (SWF) and directed by Erich Neureuther was broadcast as the 84th Tatort episode on January 29, 1978 on ARD. It is the first case with Commissioner Buchmüller in which she is supposed to investigate an attack and finds out that the victim is planning to murder his alleged assassin himself.

action

Friedrich Löbert, who is employed by a car dealer, is a hobby hunter and is hit by a gunshot while climbing his high seat . A hunting friend finds Löbert in good time so that he can receive medical attention and survives. Commissioner Buchmüller is supposed to clear up the attack and investigate the scene. A policeman finds a farewell letter in the bushes, and since a shot from Löbert's rifle penetrated the roof of the high seat, it stands to reason that he very likely wanted to shoot himself. When he was questioned at the hospital, Löbert stated that a masked man had ambushed him on the high seat, snatched the rifle from him and shot him. He also forced him to write the farewell letter. But despite the mask, he recognized him by his accent and it was Enzo Turiddu, with whom he had often argued recently.

It all sounds very strange to Buchmüller and she has the Italian checked by detective master Lamm. This is an innocent citizen who is currently in the process of obtaining German citizenship , so that he would not allow himself such escapades. Commissioner Buchmüller is aware of this and asks Turiddu what reason Löbert might have to incriminate him in this way. The only reason that Turiddu can think of is the fact that he knows a Helga Schumann well, with whom Löbert has a relationship. Buchmüller investigates and learns that she will shortly become the managing director of the dealership where Löbert has been working for years. Since he has made himself hopeful for this post, this is a very painful experience for the ambitious man.

Enzo Turiddu gets more and more distressed because of the allegations. Not only is his application for naturalization rejected, he is suspected of having committed a crime due to a misunderstanding. Under these circumstances he seems to give up and sees his dream of his own ship increasingly shattered. After Turiddu was found with carbon monoxide poisoning on the motor ship that he had wanted to buy for weeks , it looks like suicide, but the broker Helga Schumann, with whom he wanted to discuss the purchase of the ship, died with him. The introduction of the gas into the cabin through a manipulation in the engine compartment is obvious and Buchmüller is clear that only Löbert can be behind it. She confronts him and he says dejectedly: “I wanted to kill myself. Me. ”Buchmüller's answer:“ Yes, initially. ”Löbert is then arrested.
