Der Landarzt is a German television series of the Second German Television (ZDF) , which was produced from 1986 to 2012.

General

Herbert Lichtenfeld was the inventor and long-time screenwriter of the series .

16 seasons were created between April 28, 1986 (when filming began) and 2006. It was directed by Christian Quadflieg , Franz Josef Gottlieb , Wolfgang Luderer and Manfred Mosblech , among others . From April 25, 2007, the 17th season was filmed. The shooting lasted until the beginning of October. This season was the last season in which Walter Plathe continuously played the title role, who had succeeded Christian Quadflieg after his character died on television in 1992. As ZDF announced on October 24, 2007, Wayne Carpendale was his successor as the third “country doctor”. In the spring of 2009, the 15 episodes of the 18th season ran with the partly new cast on ZDF.

Wayne Carpendale and Caroline Scholze appeared in their country doctor roles in the 98th episode of Notruf Hafenkante . Jan Bergmann is the best man of his best friend Arne ( Kai Lentrodt ). In return, Sanna Englund and Matthias Schloo appeared in their roles as Melanie Hansen and Mattes Seeler from Notruf Hafenkante in the 283rd episode . After a bank robbery, the two policemen followed the perpetrators to Deekelsen. The two series thus share a common series universe . Another crossover in Emergency Call Hafenkante , broadcast in September 2013 , also includes the series Das Traumschiff and Kreuzfahrt ins Glück .

The last scenes for the 22nd season were shot on October 2, 2012. A day later, ZDF announced that the series would be canceled. The last episode was broadcast on May 17, 2013.

introduction

The country doctor is the story of the doctors Dr. Karsten Mattiesen (until 1992), Dr. Ulrich Teschner (until 2009) and Dr. Jan Bergmann and the residents of the fictional small town of Deekelsen (based on Kappeln ) in Schleswig-Holstein they look after .

The series begins after Dr. Karsten Mattiesen took over his late father's doctor's practice in Deekelsen two years earlier. The practice is located in the country doctor's house where Mattiesen grew up. His mother Olga runs this property with strict regiment, takes care of the many animals on the farm and supports Karsten in his work as a consultation assistant. In the beginning he commuted daily between his place of residence Hamburg , where his children Eike and Kerstin and his wife Annemarie also live, and Deekelsen. Since his marriage is not going well, Mattiesen moves back to Deekelsen and is thinking of divorcing his wife there. In the country he wants to gain distance and take care of the worries and illnesses of the people living there.

In episode 42, Dr. Ulrich “Uli” Teschner took over the practice after Mattiesen had a fatal accident while trying to save a child. At the end of the 17th season, Teschner moves to Bavaria with his partner Anne Helligpeter . From now on, Dr. Jan Bergmann is responsible for the health of the Deekelsen population. He falls in love with Maren Jantzen, who runs her own inn and is the single mother of a son named Florian. At the end of the 20th season, the two get married and are expecting a child.

Episode list

The numbering of the individual episodes in the following list is based on the official counting method of the production company. The five double episodes produced are considered two episodes each. Episodes 1 and 2 as well as 16 and 17 were broadcast as pilot films for the first and second season, respectively, when they were first broadcast. In later repetitions, these episodes were sometimes shown in separate form. In comparison, it is noticeable that episode 16 contains one less scene in the separate version, while episode 17 contains several additional scenes. The double episode Herzensreise is set between seasons 19 and 20 and was only broadcast three months before the 21st season. The data given in brackets refer to the first broadcast in Germany. Some episodes were previously shown on television in Austria or Switzerland.

Locations

The filming locations of the series Der Landarzt were the Schleswig landscapes of fishing and swans on the Schlei . City shots were mostly shot in Kappeln , Flensburg , Eckernförde and Süderbrarup . The scenery for the country doctor's practice was in the manor house of the former Danish Lindau estate in Lindauhof near Lindau an der Schlei, municipality of Boren , where a café was set up after the filming was finally over. The Holländerhof in Wagersrott served as the home of the herb doctor Hinnerksen . In addition to Kappeln and Eckernförde, harbor scenes were also filmed in Arnis , Maasholm , Sieseby and Flensburg. The Deekelsen glider airfield is also located in Flensburg . The cemetery scenes were filmed in Boren. Hospital scenes begin in Damp on the facade of the local hospital and are continued in the hospitals of Eckernförde (in the Eckernförde clinic ) or Schleswig ( Schlei-Klinikum ). Mark Bohm's hotel is located in the Steinadler mill in Westerholz or in a café in Damp. Countess Bea's nursery is in Gelting , the pharmacy shown in the series is in Satrup . “Maren Jantzens Gasthof” is actually a hotel in Ulsnis . Ms. Sellmann's house is in Grödersby , the "Wiesnerhof" in Ekenis .

For tourist reasons, signs with the inscription Deekelsen are regularly placed on bus shelters at Whitsun .

Publications

All seasons of the series are available on DVD. It should be mentioned that the cut of the double episodes was used for the publication. This means that episode 17 is only available in a shortened version (see the notes on the episode list ). It is also noticeable that actors are often named in the credits of the episodes who - at least in the versions published on DVD - were not seen at all. This fact suggests possible further cuts. The special broadcast on December 26, 1991, The Biggest Celebration of the Year - Christmas with our TV Families , was released on October 8, 2007 as bonus material with the 3rd (DVD) season of the series Die Schwarzwaldklinik .
