Sieseby is a district of the municipality Thumby in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein . The municipality of Thumby is located in the west of the Schwansen peninsula directly on the Schlei . The municipality includes the villages of Thumby, Sieseby, Börentwedt and Sensby and the estates Bienebek, Staun, Marienhof, Guckelsby and Grünholz. There are also other districts, some of which only consist of individual farmsteads.

The place Sieseby is located directly on the Schlei and has a ferry dock with a few berths and a stone slipway for slipping small boats. In the summer months, the pier is used by the public Schlei shipping. In terms of traffic, Sieseby can be reached via the K77 district road , which branches off from the B 203 .

Sieseby is particularly well-known for its numerous thatched-roof houses, which have been lovingly restored and develop a special flair without breaking through new buildings. Since 2000, the place has been the first area monument in Schleswig-Holstein to be listed .

history

The place Sieseby is occupied relatively early. In a document from 1267 it is called ecclesie Siceby . Later the name changed via Ciceby, Tzitzebu to Sysbuykirch and Siseby.

Thumby is first mentioned in 1252. The municipality Thumby was formed in 1876 from part of the Maasleben manor and initially only covered an area of 606 ha. In 1928 the former manor districts of Bienebek and Marienhof were connected. Staun was also added, part of the disbanded estate district Grünholz and smaller areas of the estate districts Karlsburg, Stubbe, Krieseby and Maasleben were connected to Thumby.

The place was acquired in 1887 by the ducal family Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg together with Gut Bienebek for 615,000 Reichstaler. The previous owner of the estate and village was the Hamburg merchant Gustav Anton Schäffer, who from 1839 had new houses built for his estate workers, which still bear the initials GAS today . Even today most of these houses belong to the Ducal Glücksburg property entail.

Attractions

The oldest building in the municipality is the church in Sieseby, the core of which was probably built in the 12th century. It dates from the Romanesque period . The building material was worked field stone. The building was expanded in the 13th century. At the same time as another choir was added to the east, a rib vault was drawn in. In a document dated August 15, 1267, the existence of a parish in Sieseby is first reported. She owns an organ that was built by the Danish organ builders Marcussen & Søn .

Gut Bienebek , to whose manor district the village belonged for a long time, was first mentioned in 1507. The manor house built in the 17th century has been rebuilt several times. The property, which is not open to the public, includes farm buildings from the 17th to 20th centuries.
