Angelika Milster

Angelika Milster (born December 9, 1951 in Neustrelitz ) is a German singer , actress , musical artist and voice actress . She sings hits as well as musicals and classical works. She became famous especially in the role of Grizabella in the musical Cats .

Life and accomplishments

Angelika Milster grew up in Hamburg and attended the Pachthofschule in Hamburg-Horn, where she also took part in the local Treppensänger choir . Milster then attended Margot Höpfner's drama school in Hamburg from 1968 to 1971 . There she studied singing, acting, dance and pantomime . Shortly after graduating, she got a role in Godspell at the Hamburg Thalia Theater and was able to take part in 6 Tips for Housewives on television . In 1975 she starred in her first film, I would like to have my worries (directed by Wolf Gremm ). For this she received the Ernst Lubitsch Prize . Then she appeared at the Düsseldorfer Kom (m) ödchen with Kay and Lore Lorentz and in 1982 she starred in the film Eisenhans , directed by Tankred Dorst .

In 1983 she got the role of Grizabella in the German-language premiere of the Webber musical Cats at the Theater an der Wien , with which she achieved fame. She played this role until 1987. The long-playing record for the first performance achieved gold status and the title Memory earned her a Golden Europe . Milster had become the star of the German-language musical. She was then seen and heard in several television programs and in 1985 she got her first own television program ( Mein Musicalhaus ). For the European tour of his song cycle "Song & Dance" in 1988 she was chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber for the role of Emma. This was followed by appearances in Berlin , Paris and Washington , as well as with the Kurt Weill Revue at the Berlin Theater des Westens . In the following years she also played various roles at this theater (including Bomb Mood 1992, My Name Is Marlene 1992, Blue Jeans 1994, Hello Dolly 1995, Gypsy 1996 and Let's Pop 1997). In 1994 Angelika Milster also took on her first classical role, in Lysistrata , from Aristophanes .

In addition to her stage career, Angelika Milster also appeared on television. She played a permanent role in the ZDF series Der Landarzt . Other television roles were "Salto Kommunale" (ZDF), "Mama is Impossible" (MDR) and "Körner & Köter" (SAT1) as well as in films such as "The King of Dulsberg" (1994, with Götz George) and " Club Las Piranjas "(1995, with Hape Kerkeling) and" Everything because of Robert de Niro "(1996, with Götz Alsmann). In addition, she was seen in numerous smaller roles, including in Adelheid and her murderers , Evelyn Hamann's Stories from Life and The Dream Ship .

From 1994 Angelika Milster recorded several CDs with pop hits. In 1996 she received the ECHO German Record Award for her first album, “Ich liebe Dich”. Another ECHO nomination followed in 2000. Angelika Milster also appeared in television music programs such as the ZDF Hit Parade , Melodien für Millions , Die goldene Eins , ZDF Sunday Concert and ZDF TV Garden .

From 1998 she gave several live concerts on the occasion of a major tour of Germany. In 2000 she appeared twice in the Berlin Philharmonic and performed her broad repertoire. But she also performed on smaller stages with Brecht songs and chansons .

At the beginning of 2002 Angelika Milster developed a new repertoire of classical and sacred songs for a series of church concerts. Since then she has performed regularly in churches with various concert programs, including outside of the Christmas period. As a rule, she is accompanied by her organist Professor Jürgen Grimm on the local organ.

In the same year Angelika Milster presented herself on the crossover CD "Milster." She interpreted songs from film and musicals, sang pop and Schlager and lent her voice to the fairy godmother in the German dubbed version of the Hollywood film " Shrek 2 ". At the Antikenfestspiele in Trier she took on the title role in “Lysistrata” and, together with the actor Max Krückl, highlighted the grievances of today's society in the program “A matter of opinion” in the Theater der Wühlmäuse in Berlin.

After a Christmas CD (“From the Whole Heart”) and another crossover album (“With the Eyes of Love”), she performed in more than 50 cities on the 2006 tour “The Surprise Festival of Folk Music” and played on RTL -Comedy series "Angie" the mother of the title character.

In the spring of 2008 Angelika Milster recorded a CD with hit-oriented titles (“I say yes”). At the 2006 New Year's Eve Gala she performed as a live artist with the WDR Radio Orchestra and with the SWR Big Band at the 2008 New Year's Concert. In August 2008 she gave a gala concert in Dresden with Montserrat Caballé , Milva and the Babelsberg Film Orchestra under the title “Diva Maxima”.

In May 2009 Angelika Milster devoted herself again to the musical with the solo program “I am like I am”. Since 2009, the song drama "Ewig Jung" has been on the program of the Renaissance Theater in Berlin for a limited time . Angelika Milster has played the role of sister Angelika since then. In 2010 the production was awarded the Berlin Theater Club's audience award, the " Golden Curtain ".

In addition to her theater work, Angelika Milster expanded her church concert tours in the following years and has since performed in over 500 church concerts.

In 2013 a new CD was released under the title “You brought me luck”. The songs were specially composed and written for you.

Since autumn 2016 Angelika Milster can be seen in the title role of the musical world premiereDoris Day - Day by Day” at the Schlossparktheater in Berlin. In January 2017, the premiere of "Wunschkinder" followed at the Berlin Renaissance Theater.

In the summer of 2017 Angelika Milster started her new solo concert program “Milster singt Musical” with four preview concerts in Austria and other individual concerts from this program. At the same time Angelika Milster went on a nationwide tour with “ Doris Day - Day by Day”. On September 24, 2017 she took on the leading role of "Norma Desmond" in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical "Sunset Boulevard" at the Thuringian Philharmonic in Altenburg and Gera. In the summer of 2018 Milster played several roles in a new production of the operetta " Im Weißen Rössl " in the Renaissance Theater Berlin. In the 2018/19 season she played the role of Tangolita in Ball im Savoy at Theater Lübeck .

Private

Angelika Milster has a son from her first marriage. She has been married to the Swiss conductor , composer and music producer André Bauer for a second time since 1987 and lived in Berlin until the end of 2006. Today the couple lives in Brunnen in Switzerland.
