action
The focus of each episode, each around 25 minutes long, is a Berlin snack bar and its three owners: Grandma Margarete Färber , mother Magda Färber and daughter Margot Färber . The trio receives support from the meat supplier Otto Krüger , who is also Magda's partner and also a notorious killer . Later (from 1987) the male lead Otto Krüger was replaced by the second-hand dealer Ottmar Kinkel , who is a partner of Magda's twin sister Marion Mann .
The locations of the snack bar were first on Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg (seasons 1–2), then at Steubenplatz / corner Bolivarallee in Westend (seasons 3–9) and finally in the Arminiushalle in Moabit (seasons 10–12), where a snack stand under the Name of the television series is operated to this day.

reception
The series reproduced the West Berlin local color of the 1970s and 1980s. In 2006, the NZZ spoke of a “TV series that has become cult” and called it “a socio-cultural treasure trove if you want to study life in the former West Berlin biotope between megalomania and sausage”. However , the three ladies from the grill did not survive the fall of the Berlin Wall for long - the series was discontinued in 1991 after 140 episodes.
The series has been repeated several times since then and was still on television in the 2010s, most recently on Anixe . The RBB published between 2005 and 2007 and in a somewhat simpler format in October 2011 all episodes on DVD .
Others
The theme music by Rolf Bauer was not composed specifically for the series. The composer already used this as the title melody in Ralf Gregan's soft sex film Das sündige Bett (1973) . From the 8th season the pieces Berliner Luft ( Paul Lincke ), Unter Linden, Unterst Linden ( Walter Kollo ) and Through Berlin still flows the Spree ( Jean Gilbert ) were integrated as a medley .
