Live and act

Born in Saarland, he received guitar lessons at the age of 14. A year later he began an apprenticeship as a mechanic, but then remembered his artistic streak and began studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in nearby Saarbrücken. In 1958 he took a further course (acting) at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna . The following year he continued his education at the Fritz Kirchhoff School in Berlin. At the beginning of the 1960s, Bauer initially concentrated on the performing arts and in 1961 founded the cabaret “Die Brennnessel”. At the same time he supplied the cinematic melodrama Riviera Story with its own song, Liebelei , his first contribution to the film. Liebelei reached the top position in the Italian charts in 1962.

In 1963 Rolf Bauer joined the Berlin cabaret “ Die Wühlmäuse ”, to which he remained loyal until 1972. In addition, he created a second professional pillar, became a music teacher for rock music and founded his own recording studio in 1965. In 1968, Bauer first came into contact with film. He received supporting roles in the anarchic comedy outfit Quartet in Bed and also took part in several times a day , the first film in which his "Wühlmäuse" boss Dieter Hallervorden played his first leading role. At the same time, Bauer was able to work alongside his composer colleague Horst A. Hass for the hurrapatriotic war film Shadows over Tiran - Sinai Command, shot the previous year (1967) in response to the Six Day War in Israel .

At the beginning of the 1970s, Rolf Bauer provided film music for a series of soft sex films such as the love market in Denmark, The golden banana from Bad Porno , The lascivious Turk and And the mattresses squeak several times a day . He also appeared in two of these films, but over time Bauer neglected his acting ambition until he stopped appearing in front of the camera after 1980. From the mid-1970s, compositional commissions from television were added. Here he wrote, among other things, the music for the comedy series Didi - The sub-tenant with his old boss Hallervorden and for the popular ARD evening series Drei Damen vom Grill , with the title music of this series already being the soundtrack of the soft sex film The Sinful Bed from 1973. Bauer is married to Renate Bauer , the former SFB program announcer .
