Riviera-Story is a German former elodrama from 1961 with Ulla Jacobsson and Wolfgang Preiss in the leading roles.

action

The film takes place during the economic boom. A well-off Hamburg couple resides appropriately on Elbchaussee and belongs to the upper class of society. The shipowner Arthur Dahlberg is completely absorbed in his work, which has made him successful and wealthy, and accordingly neglects his much younger, attractive wife Anja. She does complain, but her husband does not seem to recognize the explosiveness of her complaints. It is only when it is almost too late that Arthur realizes that he has to do something and goes on a pleasure trip to the Mediterranean with Anja. On the French Riviera, the Côte d'Azur, the couple hopes to finally have time together again and find each other again. But Arthur cannot get out of his routine, here too he always has business on his mind. This time, Arthur explains to his disappointed wife, he only has one meeting, and that with his Greek colleague Nikanos; the rest of the time he would devote himself entirely to her.

But shipowner Nikanos turns out to be a difficult and hard-boiled negotiating partner, and Arthur will have to devote much longer than expected to business matters. This is too much for Anja and she, too, is beginning to reorient herself. The young, smart writer Roy Benter has done it to her, and she starts an affair with him, even though she wasn't really after it at all. Only late ... but not too late ... husband Arthur realizes that he is in danger of losing his wife. Now the penny is falling and he begins to fight for Anja. Anja, in turn, realizes that Arthur's focus on business and company was not an end in itself, but a pure survival strategy. In the end, both of them realize that their marriage is more important than anything else, and the couple seals their togetherness with a kiss.

Production notes

Riviera-Story , also known under the titles Die von der Elbchaussee and Die Nacht mit Anja , was filmed in Hamburg and on the Côte d'Azur in the summer of 1961 and opened on December 7, 1961 in Germany.

The French film star Jean-Paul Belmondo can be seen in a short scene . While Becker was filming the Côte d'Azur scenes, he also discovered Belmondo, who was just pursuing his hobby here and taking part in a car race. Becker recorded Belmondo with his vehicle and later added this scene to his film.

Reviews

Paimann's film lists summed up: "This moderately emotional marriage story is seriously prepared with economic miracle highlights in a stimulating environment ... with the discreet Ulla Jacobsson and sure opponents."

“A shipowner's wife's affair with a writer. The busy husband gets wind of it, but after a few upsets of mind, he closes the guilty mouth of the wife with a kiss: 'I didn't care enough about you.' German entertainment cinema in 1961. "
