Edgar Beyfuß (born October 8, 1893 in Malang , Java , Dutch East Indies , today Indonesia ; † November 1936 in the German Empire) was a German film manager, film director and film producer specializing in nature and documentary films.

Live and act

Beyfuss had studied up to his doctorate and soon after the end of the First World War came to film and began to be interested in nature and educational film. As head of the UFA culture department, to which he had been a member since 1922, he was an enthusiastic promoter of the idea of film as a teaching and information medium. In his function as the head of the film teaching organization within the UFA, he was strongly committed to ensuring that educational films were used in German schools. In 1924, Beyfuss and Alex Kossowsky published “Das Kulturfilmbuch” (school and film), the UFA's standpoint on cultural films. In the following year he was responsible for the matinee “Der absolute Film” organized by the UFA and the November Group, which was intended to provide an overview of the achievements of the German and French avant-garde.

In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Dr. Edgar Beyfuss also worked practically in film production and produced and staged a number of information films. With “We park where we like it” he shot his only feature film from September 1933, according to his own script, which completely dispensed with studio shots, only featured amateur actors and pursued the goal of promoting a “Volkswagen” as propagated by the Nazi state . Like most of Beyfuss' other works, this film was produced by his production company Dr. Edgar Beyfuß-Film produced. Beyfuß died quite young, at the end of 1936. He was married to Erika Beyfuß (born 1901), who had worked in her husband's company until 1936 and then worked as a dramaturge and author for the film companies UFA, Tobis, Deka and Bavaria.
