Dieter Jürgen "Didi" Hallervorden (born September 5, 1935 in Dessau , Land Anhalt ) is a German comedian , cabaret artist , actor , singer , voice actor , presenter and theater director .

Life and family

Dieter Hallervorden grew up as the son of a doctor's assistant and an engineer in Dessau. He has two sisters. His grandfather Hans Hallervorden was a garden architect for the Joachim Ernst Foundation in Wörlitzer Park . Because of the air raids on Dessau , Dieter Hallervorden spent part of his childhood in Quedlinburg during the Second World War . After the end of the war he returned to Dessau and completed his school education there in 1953 with the Abitur at the Philanthropinum Oberschule .

He began studying Romance languages at the Humboldt University in Berlin, where he met Victor Klemperer , who made a fascinating impression on him. Because of the restricted freedom of expression in the GDR , Hallervorden fled the GDR to West Berlin in 1958 , initially continuing his studies at the Free University and then taking lessons from the acting teacher Marlise Ludwig . He also worked as a tour guide, construction worker, beer driver and gardener. According to his own statements, he was planning an assassination attempt on Walter Ulbricht together with his friend Kurt Eberhard , which they did not carry out due to the intervention of a friend of Eberhard's.

After applications to the Max Reinhardt Drama School and the Berlin cabaret Die Stachelschweine had been unsuccessful, he founded the cabaret stage Die Wühlmäuse in West Berlin in 1960 , of which he is still director.

In 1966 Hallervorden was arrested on suspicion of murder during a performance in Berlin after the Bild newspaper linked him to the violent death of a prostitute. Shortly afterwards he was released again, the accusation against him had turned out to be completely unfounded, the key witness stylized by the Bild newspaper was, as it became known, seven times criminal record, including for deliberate false testimony.

Dieter Hallervorden has four children: son Dieter jun. (* 1963) and daughter Nathalie (* 1966) from his first marriage to Rotraud Schindler (* 1940) as well as another daughter Laura (* 1986) and son Johannes (* 1998) from his second wife Elena Blume (* 1961) he was married for 25 years. Dieter Hallervorden has been in a relationship with Christiane Zander (* 1970) since around 2015.

He lives alternately in the Château de Costaérès on an island off the Breton coast, which he acquired in 1988 for 1.1 million DM, and in Berlin .

He gained his first experience as an actor at the Berlin tribune and the Vaganten stage . Soon after the founding of the voles, TV and film appearances followed, including in the TV movie Das Millionenspiel , in which he played the gang boss Köhler. In 1974 he was seen alongside Arno Assmann in the television thriller Der Springteufel as a hitchhiker who had escaped from the insane asylum. In the series Abramakabra , Grand Gala and Das Läster-Lexikon he made a name for himself as a satirist and comedian . The breakthrough followed in 1975 with the slapstick series Nonstop Nonsens by Süddeutscher Rundfunk . Among the most famous non-stop nonsense - sketches include the Zumsel , Palim-Palim and the cow Elsa . In addition, there was a pre-film for the series with the title Mr. S. does not have a chance .

Dieter Hallervorden published a number of music titles: I am the most beautiful man in our tenement (1976), You, the tub is full (1978, duet with Helga Feddersen , a parody of You're the One That I Want ), Fatima - today ist Ramadan (1979), Super-Dudler (1980, parody of Super Trouper by ABBA ), Punker Maria (1981, a parody of Santa Maria by Oliver Onions and Roland Kaiser ), Tierischer Tango (1981) and Der Würger vom Finanzamt ( 1982). From 1980, Hallervorden devoted himself as a screenwriter and actor mainly to the cinema, where he continued to develop the clumsy character Didi , who had become his trademark through non-stop nonsense .

In 1992 he returned to political cabaret, initially on Sat.1 with 21 episodes of the program Spottschau and from 1994 to 2003 in the first with Hallervordens Spott-Light . From 1996 to 1997 he hosted the show Do you understand fun? and in 2000 produced twelve episodes of the family comedy Zebralla written by Frank Lüdecke . From 2005 to 2010 he was part of the comedy trap team on Sat.1. In the second season of the comedy format Old Ass Bastards , which first aired on ProSieben in 2011 , Hallervorden could be seen with other prominent guest stars such as Erika Berger and Ingrid van Bergen .

He celebrated great successes in his theater Die Wühlmäuse in Berlin and in the Anhaltisches Theater in his hometown Dessau with his musical solo program With the Face and the tabloid comedies Dinner for Spinner and Die Nervensäge .

Since 2001 the cabaret theater "Die Wühlmäuse" has organized the big cabaret festival under the direction of Dieter Hallervorden every year . On two consecutive evenings, five artists will compete against each other to win the jury and audience awards. The Berlin Prize and the Honor Prize go to seasoned comedians and cabaret artists. Other artists and “handpicked” young talents contribute to the evening entertainment through guest appearances. Dieter Nuhr acts as the moderator .

His autobiography Whoever always smiles, tries ... was published on his 70th birthday in early September 2005. His autobiographical cabaret program Stations of a Comedian , which he performed together with Harald Effenberg , premiered on February 8, 2008 in Berlin.

Hallervorden also works as a voice actor . He is the German voice of Marty Feldman in his television series Marty and the voice of all the characters in the children's series Die Wombles . Hallervorden has been speaking for KiKA since September 2008 as the character of "Professor Brain Head" in the cartoon series Cosmic Quantum Ray .

At the end of 2008, the city of Berlin awarded the Schlosspark Theater after a tender to Hallervorden, who signed a ten-year lease and had renovation work carried out on the theater with private money. He was granted five years rent exemption. On September 1, 2009, the venue resumed full gaming operations. In addition to numerous guest appearances by prominent colleagues, Dieter Hallervorden also takes to the stage himself in plays, staged by Bettina Rehm and Adelheid Müther , among others . At the end of 2011 / beginning of 2012 there were racism allegations on the part of Bühnenwatch against Dieter Hallervorden and Joachim Bliese , because in the play “I am not Rappaport” the character of the black Midge Carter was cast with Bliese as blackface . In January 2015, Hallervorden hit the headlines on a similar topic. The Berlin BVG had celebrities make announcements from the subway stations. Dieter Hallervorden announced Mohrenstrasse , the renaming of which the “Berlin Postkolonial” association has been campaigning for a long time and protested accordingly in the face of the 2012 blackfacing debate.

From 2010, Hallervorden, previously known mainly as a comedian, increasingly took on serious roles in cinema and television productions, for which he also received awards. He was seen as a child molester in the thriller Das Kind in 2012 , played the lead role in the film drama His last race in 2013 and in 2014 a man in honey in the head who was seriously ill with Alzheimer's disease .

On the occasion of the Corona crisis , Hallervorden decided in April 2020 to launch the "Spirit with Humor" project, which will be broadcast live from the Berlin Schlosspark Theater. The live broadcasts are presented without an audience, reduced and thematically varied. Everything is broadcast in person on Facebook or YouTube.

In 2020, Hallervorden took part in the vocal show The Masked Singer on ProSieben disguised as the chameleon and reached number 5. He became a crowd favorite.

Political and social engagement

For the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1975 and for the federal election in 1976 Hallervorden was on the road with the voles for the FDP. For the 1980 federal election he campaigned for the FDP as a representative of Liberal Action in 36 cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, he played the main role as an advertising figure in the FDP election commercial in 1983, in which he promoted the black and yellow government. In 2016 he was part of the FDP campaign for the state election in Saxony-Anhalt .

At the Austrian Romy Awards 2015 in Vienna , Hallervorden accepted the award for best actor, thanked him and added: “And tomorrow I'll take Romy home to the Reich.” With the slogan “ Home to the Reich ”, the National Socialists and a. advertised for the connection of Austria in 1938. When asked by a Bild am Sonntag reporter, Hallervorden replied: “I know very well what I said. That was a deliberate provocation that I thought very carefully about. ”He wanted to remember German-Austrian history:“ Before the Second World War, the Austrians defected to Nazi Germany with waving flags. After the war, the Austrian and Russian foreign ministers agreed that the state treaty stipulated that Austria was not to blame for the Second World War. Which means that the country did not have to make any reparations payments that weighed on the German shoulders. ”Hallervorden emphasized that he did not want to call for right-wing ideas, but wanted to warn against right-wing extremism .

In 2015 Hallervorden published a music video for his song of thanks to his fans on the occasion of his 80th birthday with the title You make me courage (during this time) . He donates the sales proceeds to refugee aid. The play, which was emphatically critical of culture and society, brought him criticism from the journalist Michael Wuliger : In the weekly newspaper Jüdische Allgemeine he found that Hallervorden used anti-Semitic codes, openly represented anti-American resentment and spoke to conspiracy theorists .

In response to the criticism of Jan Böhmermann's vicious criticism , Hallervorden published the song Erdogan, show me! whose music is based on the Narhalla march. A little later he also criticized the German Chancellor in this context with the song Merkel - ready for anything (melody of the Steigerlied ).

Hallervorden is a member of the German Language Association and an ambassador for the Federal Association of Children's Hospice .
