Max Reinhardt School for Drama
The Max Reinhardt School for Drama was a drama school in West Berlin that was founded in 1951 by Hilde Körber .
After the end of the Second World War and the increasingly clear division of Berlin, double foundations arose in the western part of the city. Theater life was built up by Boleslaw Barlog and took shape with the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin , of which he was director for many years .
In 1948, the Free University of Berlin was founded in Berlin-Dahlem as an alternative. The actress and cultural politician Hilde Körber founded the Max Reinhardt School for Drama in the soft image of the campus . She was its director until her death in 1969. The choice of name seems a bit usurpatory and deliberate, but is justifiable because the Drama School of the German Theater founded by Max Reinhardt, re- established in 1951 as the State Drama School Berlin , renamed in 1981 to the "Ernst Busch" Academy of Dramatic Art Contrary to popular usage, Berlin never bore its name.
In 1964 the facility was integrated into what was then the University of Music and Performing Arts , and Hilde Körber was allowed to use the title of professor from 1965. In 1974 it merged with what was then the University of Fine Arts to form the University of the Arts (HdK) . The term HdK is still used today, but since 2001 it has been correctly called UdK .
