Gerburg Treusch-Dieter (born November 13, 1939 in Stuttgart ; † November 19, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German professor of sociology and cultural studies at the Free University of Berlin , the Berlin University of the Arts , the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the university Vienna .

Life

Gerburg Treusch-Dieter completed an apprenticeship at the Max-Reinhardt-Schule in Berlin and worked as an actress from 1960 to 1970. She then studied sociology , psychology and literary studies at the University of Hanover and received her doctorate in sociology in 1985 with the dissertation The spindle of necessity. On the story of a paradigm of female productivity . She completed her habilitation in the Department of Philosophy and Social Science at the Free University of Berlin with the text From Sexual Rebellion to Genetic and Reproductive Technology.

Treusch-Dieter dealt with the discourse history of the gender difference from Aristotle to the present day, which in the course of modern biopower finally led to the removal of life from the female body .

An essential part of her work was the deconstruction of the conventional understanding of myths, because "Myths are not cozy ..." (GTD) and here in particular the research of the 'Holy Couple' with special consideration of the 'Bride of the Dead', because the question: "Who that Generating what is “begotten” is the ultimate question of power. The historical, as far as it is 'imagination', follows in a 'storytelling'. Your problem is to what extent the “Golden Age” had to give way to an “Iron Age”. To answer that there was no 'Golden Age' will not be possible. Because the glow in which it appears is the glow of the fire of apotheosis, the deification of man, in which both man and woman participate. Included in this deification is a sacrifice: that of the woman. She is the representative of rebirth that cannot be separated from apotheosis. The abolition of this cult leads to a revaluation and devaluation of this sacrifice: the 'Holy Bride' becomes the 'Bride of the Dead' ” .

Together with Dietmar Kamper , Klaus-Jürgen Bruder , Wolf-Dieter Narr , the Insane Offensive and the Berlin Volksbühne, Gerburg Treusch-Dieter organized the Foucault Tribunal in 1998 on the state of psychiatry.

Gerburg Treusch-Dieter was co-editor of the weekly newspaper Freitag and the cultural magazine Ästhetik & Kommunikation .

She was married to the actor, director and artistic director Hermann Treusch .

Gerburg Treusch-Dieter died of complications from cancer. Her grave is in the Grunewald cemetery , Bornstedter Str. 11/12.
