Markwart Müller-Elmau (born August 1, 1937 in Munich ) is a German actor and director.

Life

He was born on August 1, 1937 in Munich as the son of the director and actor Eberhard Müller-Elmau (1905–1995) and his wife, the opera singer Gerda Kuntzsch (1909–2008). He comes from a theater dynasty, his daughter is Natalie Müller-Elmau ( 3sat coordinator on ZDF ), the actor Raidar (1933–2003) was his brother, his daughter, the actress Katharina and his son the author, director and set designer Alexander . His grandfather was the philosopher Johannes Müller , founder of Schloss Elmau . After graduating from high school in Göttingen in 1957, he completed acting training at the Max Reinhardt School for Drama in Berlin. Since 1959 he has worked as an actor, director, senior director a. a. active in Kassel, Freiburg, Konstanz, Ulm. From 1964 he worked mainly as a director, since 1992 exclusively as an actor a. a. at the Nationaltheater Mannheim , at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover, from 2000 at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. Since autumn 2009 he has been an actor at the Deutsches Theater, Berlin .

Director

He staged numerous plays a. a. by Schiller, Shakespeare, Brecht, Lessing, Pinter, Strauss, HW Müller (including two world premieres). On behalf of the Goethe Institute he staged in 1989 in Singapore the Caucasian Chalk Circle in English by Brecht and 1992 to Kaspar by Peter Handke in Sinhala in Colombo (Sri Lanka).
