Kaspar
Kaspar is a male given name and goes back to Caspar (the C according to Latinized tradition), one of the Three Kings . Caspar is the Persian word for treasurer and early Ethiopian for "inner city or city center". The latter is still preserved in Arabic as a kasbah , which is composed of the Persian terms ghaz (treasure) and bar (to lead, manage, provide). Furthermore, it could be a name with an ethnic designation, since a people or tribe called Caspii is documented near Dionysios Periegetes on the west bank of the Caspian Sea , for example in today's Dagestan . Possible variants are Kasperi (Finnish), Gaspard (French), Kaspars (Latvian), Kasparas (Lithuanian), Kacper (Polish) and Gáspár (Hungarian).
The figure of Punch is derived from the comical interludes of the Caspar figure in the Epiphany .
