Günter Caspar
Günter Caspar (born August 6, 1924 in Berlin ; † July 8, 1999 in Berlin) was editor-in-chief at Aufbau Verlag .
Life
Caspar joined the NSDAP in 1943 . He was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1942 and was a British and American prisoner of war from 1944 to 1948 . In 1948 he joined the SED and began studying history in Berlin. In 1949 he worked as a journalist for the " Daily Rundschau " and from 1950 to 1955 as editor and author of the monthly magazine "Aufbau" directed by Bodo Uhse .
From 1955 he was an editor, from 1956 acting chief editor and from 1963 head of the editing department "Contemporary German Literature" at Aufbau Verlag. In this function he was an important promoter of GDR literature.
In addition to his editorial work - he supervised a. a. 1962 to 1987 the ten-volume edition of the selected works by Hans Fallada and from 1974 to 1983 the six-volume edition of the collected works of Bodo Uhse - he wrote numerous epilogues and worked as a publicist and critic, especially under the pseudonym Kaspar Borz for the magazine " Die Weltbühne ".
Caspar was awarded the Wilhelm Bracke Medal in 1971 and the National Prize in the publishing collective .
