Joseph Caspar
Joseph Anton Johann Nepomuk Caspar (born February 17, 1799 in Rorschach , Switzerland, † February 22, 1880 in Berlin ) was a Swiss painter and engraver .
At the age of 16 Caspar went to Rome to study by copying the old masters. With the advice and recommendation of Wilhelm von Schadow , Caspar went to Berlin in 1820 and settled there as a freelance artist.
Privy Councilor von Beuth advised Caspar to specialize in the art of copperplate engraving and supported him financially. Caspar was therefore able to study in Milan for about four years as a student of Giuseppe Longhi and Pietro Anderloni .
