Giuseppe Longhi
Giuseppe Longhi (born October 13, 1766 in Monza , † January 2, 1831 in Milan ) was an Italian engraver .
Life
He attended the school of the Florentine Vincenzo Vangelisti (1728–1798) in Milan, where he also devoted himself to painting. He later went to Rome , where he joined Raffaello Morghen (1758–1833), and was first known for his engraving of Bonaparte's portrait after the painting by Gros . In 1798 he became a professor at the Accademia di Brera in Milan. In 1823 Longhi was accepted as a foreign member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts .

His elegant drawing did as much justice to the masterpieces of Italian classics as his painterly feeling did justice to the paintings of Rembrandt .
Its main leaves are:
- the genius of music according to Guido Reni ,
- the Madonna del Dante to Parmigianino ,
- Galatea on the shell to Albani ,
- the rest on the flight into Egypt to Procaccini ,
- Sposalizio, a holy family, the vision of Ezekiel and the Madonna del Velo after Raphael (the latter completed by Toschi in 1834 ),
- Magdalena to Correggio ,
- the philosopher after Rembrandt (for the Musée français ),
- Enrico Dandolo after Matteini ,
- the beheading of John the Baptist after Honthorst .
In his last days he was also concerned with the engraving of the Last Judgment by Michelangelo .
Books
Giuseppe Longhi wrote La Calcografia, a theory of copper engraving (Milan 1830). A German translation by Carl Barth in two volumes was published in Hildburghausen in 1837 under the title Die Kupferstecherei .

Among his students are the more outstanding: Pietro Anderloni , Michele Bisi , Giovita Garavaglia , Jakob Felsing , Ferdinand Anton Krüger , Ludwig Gruner , Moritz Steinla .
