Anton Ferdinand Krüger (also Ferdinand Anton Krüger ; born August 1, 1795 in Loschwitz ; died April 24, 1857 in Dresden ) was a Saxon engraver and professor at the Dresden Art Academy .

Anton Ferdinand Krüger was the son of Christian Joseph Krüger (1759–1814), a medalist at the Dresden Mint . While his older brother Reinhard (1794–1879) took up his father's profession, Anton Ferdinand studied at the Dresden Art Academy, where he was taught by his uncle, the engraver Ephraim Gottlieb Krüger (1756–1834). From 1814 he studied with Johann Gotthard von Müller in Stuttgart until a donation from the Saxon court enabled him to travel to Italy in 1819. During the trip he stayed in Paris , Rome and Florence and was a member of the German artist colonies there. In Florence, they included Louise Seidler , Franz Horny and sponsors such as Wolf Heinrich von Baudissin and Carl Friedrich von Rumohr . In 1824 he worked for Giuseppe Longhi in Milan , under whose direction he began the engraving of the Madonna del Cardellino after Raphael's oil painting from 1506, but did not finish it until 1830.

On returning to Dresden, he worked at the art academy there from 1828, first as a teacher, and from 1829 as an associate professor. In 1842 he was finally appointed full professor and in 1849 a member of the academic senate.

He worked primarily after Raffael, Marcantonio Raimondi , Niccolo da Foligno , Bernardino Luini and Guido Reni , but also considered contemporary artists such as Friedrich Overbeck , Peter von Cornelius and Carl Gottlieb Peschel . His style is described as safe and clean, as well as having a clear and strong line manner.
