Raffaello Morghen , sometimes also Raphael Morghen (born June 19, 1758 in Naples , † April 8, 1833 in Florence ) was an Italian engraver and etcher .

Life

Morghen was first a student of his father Filippo Morghen, from 1778 with Giovanni Volpato in Rome. In 1793 he was by the Grand Duke Ferdinand III. called to Florence, where he opened a school of engravers. In Thieme-Becker's lexicon of artists , he is referred to as the “most important representative in Italy” of French line engraving. In 1803 Morghen was accepted as a foreign member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts .
