Peter Paul Kaspar (* 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Catholic pastor, professor, musician and writer.

Career

Kaspar studied music (church music and organ) and theology in Vienna and Innsbruck. After two academic degrees, he was in 1966 by Cardinal Franz König in his home parish of St. Anthony of Padua (Schwarzlackenau) in Vienna- Floridsdorf for priests ordained. Initially he worked as a chaplain in Hainburg an der Donau and Vienna XX., From 1981 to 1989 as a youth and student chaplain throughout Austria , and from 1983 to 2013 in Linz as an academic and artist chaplain . In addition, he taught religion at the Academic Gymnasium from 1982 to 2007 and music theory (sacred music) at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz from 1992 to 2008 . Since 1985 he has been rector of the art-rich baroque Ursuline Church in Linz city center, where, after a period of closure and restoration, he founded and supervised a Sunday evening congregation (8 p.m.) specializing in music and sermons - today together with the university chaplain Markus Schlagnitweit, who meanwhile also became his successor as an academic chaplain.

He wrote around 30 books, most recently five books on music and religion, and wrote regularly for the print media on questions of church reform, he gave concerts at home and abroad and gave lectures on questions of church music. He is a member of the PEN, was a member of the Provincial Cultural Advisory Board for Upper Austria for two sessions, is also a board member of the Austrian Pastors' Initiative and regularly writes for the media on questions of church reform. Federal President Heinz Fischer awarded him the title of professor, the Governor of Upper Austria Josef Pühringer the gold medal of Merit of Upper Austria, the President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce Christoph Leitl the Julius Raab Medal and Bishop Maximilian Aichern the title of Consistorial Councilor.
