Peter Pavlovsky

Peter Pawlowsky (* 1937 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , editor , author and translator .

Life

Peter Pawlowsky studied German, philosophy and art history. He received his doctorate in 1960 and passed the bookseller examination in 1962. From 1969 to 1987 he was a domestic political journalist for the weekly newspaper " Present ". From 1972 to 1975 he conducted 148 TV Bible conversations under the title “Questions of the Christian”. From 1972 to 1976 he moderated “ Orientation ”, later “Night Studio”, “Controversy” and “ Club 2 ”. In 1972 he was the founding editor-in-chief of the magazine “multimedia”, 1972–1975 Austria correspondent for “Herder-Korrespondenz”, 1977 editor in charge of the ORF study program “Whom Believe?”. From 1990 to 1997 he was head of the religious department on ORF television. From 1995 to 2000 he presented " criss-cross ". From 1999 to 2008 he headed the Biblical Summer Weeks of the Austrian Catholic Academic Association in Vorau Abbey. Peter Pawlowsky is married to Susanne Heine, professor for practical theology and religious psychology at the University of Vienna , and has two daughters and a son.

From 2000 to 2004 he was the spokesman for the “Forum Art-Science-Media” of the Catholic Action . For a decade he was a member of the program advisory board of the cultural channel ARTE . From 1971 to 1974 he was chairman of the Arge Catholic Journalists, from 1974 to 1977 chairman of the Catholic Center for Mass Communication Vienna and from 1998 to 2001 chairman of the board of trustees of the Literary Forum of Catholic Action. Between 1999 and 2000, Pawlowsky was a member of the Episcopal Media Commission and 1999–2004 a member of the program working group of the European Capital of Culture Graz 2003.

In 2006 he initiated the Christian and Muslim platform with the former ORF foreign correspondent Paul Schulmeister and the journalist Heinz Nussbaumer . From 2009 to 2015 he was deputy chairman of the church reform movement “Laity Initiative”.

Since 1965 he has translated 20 books from Dutch, including works by Huub Oosterhuis , and from Italian. Pawlowsky was a columnist for Die Furche magazine for years .

Awards

  • 1980 Cardinal Innitzer Promotion Prize for science journalism.
  • 1981 Journalism Prize; Main prize electronic media of the Catholic Family Association.
  • In 1998 he was awarded the Axel Corti Prize .
  • In 1999 the program "Kreuz & Quer" was awarded the special prize of the jury for the best program idea as part of the Romy 99 award ceremony.
  • In 2000 the “Kreuz & Quer” editorial team was awarded the Prof. Claus Gatterer Prize.
  • 2000 Cardinal Innitzer Prize (appreciation prize for scientifically sound journalism)
  • 2018 Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class
