Kaspar Brack (also Kaspar Brak ; * in Gerolzhofen ; † May 2, 1618 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1615 to 1618 .

Life

Kaspar Brack was born in Gerolzhofen in Lower Franconia in the 16th century . The sources are silent about the parents of the future abbot, Brack first attended the Jesuit school in Bamberg . Kaspar Brack entered the Ebrach monastery at a young age and took his monastic vows . Kaspar's predecessor, Abbot Hieronymus Hölein, sent the young monk to Rome to study. Here he learned at the German University, the Germanikum , and received his doctorate in theology.

After his studies Brack became parish vicar in the monastery village of Burgebrach , where he performed pastoral activities for his monastery. After the death of Hieronymus Hölein at the end of 1615, Brack was designated as his successor on November 25th, the election probably took place around November 26th, 1615. Abbot Kaspar was nominated on February 2nd, 1616 by the Würzburg bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn .

After his election he received festive poems from his old school in Bamberg. The short term of office of Kaspar Brack is hardly mentioned in the sources. Brack died on May 2, 1618 in the monastery in Ebrach. His successor with the abbot, Johannes V. Dressel , had a tomb erected for him in 1619 that shows him kneeling in front of the crucified.
