Mizzi Kaspar
Maria "Mizzi" Kaspar (born September 28, 1864 in Graz , † January 29, 1907 in Vienna ) was the long-time lover of the Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince Rudolf .
Life
Mizzi Kaspar carried the professional title of “house owner”, but was more of a kind of “ noble whore ”, known in Vienna at the time as “ soubrette ”. Rudolf had other affairs too, but had a close relationship with Mizzi until his suicide. In 1887 he bought her a three-story town house for 60,000 guilders at Heumühlgasse 10 in Vienna's 4th district , not far from the Vienna River, which was not yet vaulted at the time . He also sent her cash and jewelry worth a total of 130,000 guilders.
Before his suicide, Rudolf became more and more tired of life and more desperate. He wanted to kill himself with Mizzi, but she didn't want to die with him. Mizzi informed the police about Rudolf's suicide plans , which were ignored.
Rudolf and Mizzi spent their last night together, January 27-28, 1889, with her. The next day Rudolf set out on a planned hunt for Mayerling . On the morning of January 30th, Rudolf's body was discovered in the Mayerling Hunting Lodge . The young baroness Mary Vetsera died with him .
Rudolf bequeathed Mizzi 30,000 guilders in his will. The twenty-four year old (at the time of Mayerling) never gave an interview and lived completely withdrawn. On November 7th, 1889, she was granted Viennese citizenship and stated her employment as “house owner”.
In 1891 she sold the house in Heumühlgasse and moved to the house at Paniglgasse 19 in the same district, a little closer to the city center.
Mizzi Kaspar died on January 29, 1907, according to the death inspection protocol , of hardening of the spinal cord , a consequence of syphilis . She was buried in Mödling, where she also lived for a time. However, the grave no longer exists today.
She left no diaries, no letters, and no memoirs .
