Lukáš Kašpar (born September 3, 1985 in Most , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Kometa Brno from the Czech extra league since June 2018 .
Career
Kašpar first went through the youth departments of the Czech first division club HC Chemopetrol Litvínov , which used him for the first time in the top division at the age of 18. In nine games that he played in the 2002/03 season, he scored one goal and prepared another. In the following season, the Czech was in the professional squad for the entire season and recorded six points in 37 games.
In the summer, the NHL Entry Draft followed , in which Kašpar was selected in the first round in 22nd place by the San Jose Sharks . The Czech then began his commitment in North America in autumn 2004, initially with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League . In his only OHL season, he reached the Memorial Cup tournament with the team and contributed a total of 51 points. Due to his appealing performance, which drew the attention of the Sharks' scouts to him, he signed his first professional contract with the San Jose Sharks after the season, which first used him with the Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League . After the team moved in the summer of 2006, he played for the Worcester Sharks , before he was called up in the fall of 2007 after initially a few games in the AHL in the squad of the San Jose Sharks, who had to contend with injury problems. Kašpar then came to his first three NHL missions.
By performing well in the Sharks training camp in the fall of 2008, he finally earned a place in the squad of the NHL team. After only a few games of the season he lost the same to Brad Staubitz and was sent back to the farm team in Worcester via the waiver list, from which none of the other 29 teams selected him within 24 hours. There he played the rest of the season with one small exception when he was brought back to San Jose. After his contract expired in the summer of 2009, this was not renewed by the Sharks, after which the Philadelphia Flyers signed him.
At the beginning of November 2009, Kašpar left the Flyers franchise to return to Europe. There he was signed by Kärpät Oulu from the Finnish SM-liiga and reached the playoff quarter-finals with Kärpät. In June 2010, Kašpar was committed by Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League and completed over 110 KHL games for the club in the following two years.
In August 2012 Kašpar was signed by HK Donbass Donetsk , with whom he won the IIHF Continental Cup in 2013. After the 2013/14 season, the club withdrew from the game and Kašpar then moved within the KHL to HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk . In February 2015 he returned to Kärpät Oulu. From August 2015 he was under contract with HC Slovan Bratislava from the KHL and scored 49 points scorer in the following KHL season. He was the team's top scorer for Slovan and attracted the attention of other KHL clubs. In May 2016 he signed a two-year contract with HK Dynamo Moscow . He left the club after a year and returned to Slovan Bratislava. Since June 2018 he has been under contract with the reigning Czech champions HC Kometa Brno from the Czech extra league.
International
On an international level, Kašpar played for his home country Czech Republic at the U20 World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 . In 2005 he was able to win the bronze medal after a narrow win in extra time over the team of the United States in the game for third place. The year before, the team failed in the final round to Canada and Finland, so they had to be content with fourth place.
With the Czech men's selection , he took part in the 2010 , 2012 and 2016 world championships, with his team winning the 2010 world championship.
