Joonas Järvinen (born January 5, 1989 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with Kunlun Red Star in the Continental Hockey League .

Career

Joonas Järvinen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of TPS Turku , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga , the top Finnish league, from 2007 to 2011 . In the 2009/10 season he was Finnish champion with TPS Turku . For the 2011/12 season, the defender moved within the SM-liiga to the Pelicans Lahti . After the season in which he finished second with Lahti, he moved to the Nashville Predators as a free agent . There he signed a two-year contract, but was only used in the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals until his contract ended .

In June 2014 he returned to Europe and was signed by HK Sochi from the Continental Hockey League . In summer 2015 the Finn moved back to Finland to HIFK Helsinki , for whom he played in the Liiga and Champions Hockey League . At the end of the season he was Finnish runner-up with the HIFK, before he was signed by Kunlun Red Star (KRS) in September . For KRS he played 100 competitive games in the KHL before he returned to Finland in summer 2018 and received a contract with Tappara until November 2018. He then decided to return to the KHL to Kunlun Red Star.

International

For Finland , Järvinen took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2007 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2012 World Cup . In the same year he represented Finland on the Euro Hockey Tour .
