The 2016/17 season of the Vysschaya Hockey League was the 25th season of the second highest Russian ice hockey division . The champions of the multinational league were HK Dynamo Balaschicha , who defeated Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk 4-0 in the playoff final for the Bratina Cup .

Changes compared to the previous year

mode

The league has 26 participants (24 Russian and two Kazakh). They each play a return match against every other participant in the league, so each team plays a total of 50 games in the main round. The 16 best-placed teams then qualified for the playoffs, in which the second division champions are played. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after extra time, one point for a loss after extra time and zero points for a loss after regular time.

Main round

In November Kristall Saratow had to withdraw from the game due to financial problems, the games already played by the club remained in the rating.
