The 2015/16 season of the Vysschaya Hockey League was the 24th season of the second highest Russian ice hockey division and the sixth since the league was restructured.

Changes compared to the previous year

The HK Lipetsk and HC Kuban withdrew for financial reasons from the league back.
Zvezda Chekhov , Zvezda-VDV Dmitrov and Chimik Voskressensk were added to the league as expansion teams.
Kristall Saratov returned to the league.
The SKA-Karelija was relocated to Saint Petersburg and changed its name to SKA-Neva Saint Petersburg .

mode

The league consists of 26 participants (24 Russian and two Kazakhstani), each of which competes in a home and away match against every other participant in the league, whereupon each team plays a total of 50 games in the main round. The 16 best-placed teams then qualified for the playoffs, in which the second division champions are played. Each team receives three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after extra time, one point for a loss after extra time and zero points for a loss after regular time.
