Angelique Rockas
Angelique Rockas (born August 31, 1951 in Boksburg , Transvaal Province , South Africa ) is a South African- Greek actress and theater practitioner . In the 1980s she produced plays with multiethnic and multinational actors in London with the Internationalist Theater, which she directs .
Origin and education
Rockas was born and raised in Boksburg, South Africa. She had three siblings who followed Orthodox Christian traditions and Greek cultural heritage. She received her early education at St. Dominic's Catholic School for Girls in Boksburg and later earned a BA honors degree in English literature with a focus on philosophy from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg . Upon graduation, Rockas completed an acting course at the University of Cape Town's Drama School under the direction of Robert Mohr.
Young activist Rockas appeared on the front page of the South African star in June 1970, related to fundraising drives for the Saheti School - a Greek school in Germiston , South Africa . With George Bizos she took part in a celebration of the War of Independence in Greece on March 25, 1970. Bizos called them "l'enfant terrible" for their rejection of the status quo. He became her role model, which led to the establishment of the Internationalist Theater .
Act
Theater actress
Rockas began her acting career at Theatro Technis London, where she took part in classics such as 'Prometheus Bound', 'Lysistrata', The Knights Oh Democracy and political plays in Greek / English Rockas received as an actress for her interpretation of roles such as that of Yvette Good reviews in Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht or Carmen in The Balcony by Jean Genet. Their representation in Medea was described as "extremely agile". She also played Emma in El Campo by Griselda Gambaro , referred to as "magistralmente" by BBC Latin American Service. Her groundbreaking performance by Strinberg Miss Julie as a short, Greek-looking aristocrat was described as a feat that "brings big dimensions to the figure" which was ignored in previous productions
'Tis Pity She`sa Whore' which was also Rocka's first theatrical production under the 'New Theater' banner and is now listed as one of Tis Pity's main productions for the 1980s decade of the 20th century
Internationalist theater
Rockas headed the Internationalist Theater, where from 1981 pieces such as Le Balcon (The Balcony) by Jean Genet , El Campo by Griselda Gambaro , Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht , and Liola by Luigi Pirandello were staged. The staging of The Balcony was announced in the theater magazine The Stage with artists from different cultural backgrounds, for example with the Sierra Leone actress Ellen Thomas in the role of Madame Irma.

In Greece she appeared in the lead role of MS Ortiki in the TV series Emmones Idees (1989–1990). Rockas is working on her own film projects with Contemptus Mundi Film.
