Chemitex was a rayon factory in the Polish city of Sochaczew .

history

The company was founded in 1926 by Józef Korc and started production in December 1928. Chemitex grew rapidly and employed 2,145 people at the outbreak of World War II . During the war, a field hospital was first set up on the company premises, later artificial silk was produced again until 1944.

The nationalized factory resumed production in November 1945. It was expanded significantly in the 1960s, increasing production to 7771 tons per year by the mid-1970s. This corresponded to a third of the Polish synthetic fiber production at that time. After the collapse of the communist regime, Chemitex went downhill until it finally went bankrupt in 1999. Today only ruins remain of the plant.
