Manuela Kasper-Claridge (born Kasper ; born October 26, 1959 in Berlin ) is a German journalist. Since May 1, 2020, she has been editor-in-chief of Deutsche Welle (DW) with offices in Berlin and Bonn.

Family and education

Manuela Kasper-Claridge was born in Berlin in 1959 as the daughter of Dieter and Carmen Kasper. After graduating from high school, she studied economics and sociology at the Free University of Berlin from 1979 to 1984 and graduated in 1984 with a diploma . This was followed by an internship at Sender Freie Berlin (SFB) from 1985 to 1986 . Kasper-Claridge worked as a trainer for television editors and directors until 1988. Then she became an editor at RIAS-TV . The main focus of the reporting was the reunification of Germany as well as Central and Eastern Europe. At times Manuela Kasper-Claridge lived and worked in Washington DC, USA.

Professional background

Manuela Kasper-Claridge has been with Deutsche Welle (DW) since 1992. Until 1998 she was television editor in the area of ​​"News and Economy". In 1998 she became the head of DW-TV's business department for current business reporting from Asia, the USA, Latin America and Europe. Since 2001 she was also responsible for the science department. From 2014 she headed the newly created “Economy, Science, Environment” department at DW. In May 2020 she was appointed editor-in-chief of Deutsche Welle.

Manuela Kasper-Claridge was responsible for the series "Smart Minds - Young Scientists in Germany" for the science magazine "Projekt Zukunft / Tomorrow Today" from DW-TV. In April 2008 she started the new globalization magazine "Global 3000". The cooperation partners are the United Nations.

At the end of 2009, Manuela Kasper-Claridge started a multimedia climate project for Deutsche Welle. "Global Ideas" presents best practice climate protection projects around the world . The project is supported by the International Climate Initiative. Since 2009, the world's largest multilingual and multimedia climate protection platform has been created. It has numerous national and international cooperation partners (including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, British Council, UN University Tokyo-Our World 2.0).

Manuela Kasper-Claridge is a regular guest at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos . She established partnerships with the WEF and the Schwab Foundation. She is a member of the board of trustees of the Ifo Institute in Munich and in various juries ( Ernst Schneider Prize , SME Prize , etc.) and leads panel discussions in German and English.

Manuela Kasper-Claridge also initiated a cooperation with the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings . Kasper-Claridge conducted numerous exclusive interviews with Nobel Prize winners, including Stephen Chu (physics), Mario Molina (chemistry), Barry Marshall (medicine) and Alvin Roth (economics).

In recent years, Manuela Kasper-Claridge has taken part in the Fortune conference “Most Powerful Women”, which brings together women in leadership positions in London - including representatives from business, politics, media and art. Since June 2016 she has been a member of the board of the Society of Friends and Patrons of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics .

Manuela Kasper-Claridge won various prizes at international events with her film reports, including the Environmental Media Prize of Deutsche Umwelthilfe in the "Online" category.
