Caspar Pfreund

Caspar Pfreund , also called Freund etc. (* around 1517 in Saalfeld , † June 16, 1574 in Wittenberg ) was a pharmacist and mayor of Wittenberg .

Life

Caspar Pfreund enrolled at the University of Wittenberg in the winter semester in 1543 . As a result of his marriage to Anna Cranach († June 30, 1577), a daughter of Lucas Cranach the Elder, in 1550 . Ä. he received as a provisional from his father-in-law's pharmacy. After Cranach's death in 1553 he inherited the pharmacy and moved it to Markt 4 a year later. His love for botany found expression in the creation of a herb garden. He showed the plants to the medical students and gave them lessons on foreign drugs and simplicity.

Due to the position of the Cranach family, there was also Lucas Cranach the Elder's brother-in-law . J. was a member of the council and determined the fortunes of the city which, as home, provided the economic basis. In 1551, Pfreund joined the ruling council of Wittenberg, which was councilor in 1551, 1554, 1557, 1560, 1563, 1566, former mayor in 1569 and 1572, assessor of the mayor and in 1568 and 1571 as mayor.
