Julius Kaspar (painter)

Julius Kaspar (born December 13, 1888 in Karlsruhe , † June 15, 1922 in Pforzheim ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

From 1910 he studied at the Academy in Karlsruhe , with Walter Conz. He was u. a. friends with Rudolf Schlichter , Egon Itta, Willi Müller-Hufschmid and Georg Scholz

Carl Zuckmayer reports in As if it's a piece from me about his visits to the Rih group :

"Every now and then the painter Kasper appeared, a hacked, inaccessible person who looked like a coarsened Van Gogh , potato-headed, the small, restless bear eyes flickered by the sparkles of the madness on which he perished."

In Rudolf Schlichter's autobiography The unruly flesh and clay feet , Kaspar is portrayed in detail under the pseudonym "Julius Zack".

Kaspar, who was in contact with the underworld, preferred factories, backyard scenes, prostitution and unemployment as motifs. Towards the end of his life he worked as a drawing teacher at the Pforzheim goldsmith school.
