Alexander Müller-Elmau (born November 25, 1961 in Göttingen ) is a German set designer, author and director.

Life

Alexander Müller-Elmau comes from a theater dynasty: his grandfather was the well-known director and actor Eberhard Müller-Elmau , his father the actor Raidar Müller-Elmau . His sister is the actress Katharina , his uncle is the director and actor Markwart Müller-Elmau , one cousin is Natalie Müller-Elmau, 3sat coordinator on ZDF , another cousin is the actress Carolin Conrad . His great-grandfather was the philosopher Johannes Müller , founder of Schloss Elmau . He has been married to the singer Julia von Miller since 1998 and has two daughters.

Set designer

After an internship at the workshops of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus at the Kunsthochschule Köln, Müller-Elmau studied stage and costume design with Rolf Glittenberg. In Munich he studied philosophy and theater studies. He was assistant set designer and director at various opera houses in Europe. From 1992 he started working as a freelance stage and costume designer for opera and drama at the Munich State Opera and at the Bavarian State Theater . Numerous other works were created with Hans-Ulrich Becker . a. in Aachen and Mannheim (each under the directorship of Klaus Schultz), at the State Theater Stuttgart, Residenztheater Munich, in Heidelberg and Bochum, at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , Thalia Theater Hamburg, State Theater Stuttgart and at the Theater der Josefstadt Vienna. He also works continuously with the theater director Amélie Niermeyer (including Munich and Frankfurt, Düsseldorf). Stations of his activity for the music theater were Saarbrücken, Bonn, Cape Town, Strasbourg, Munich, Hamburg. In 1995 he was a lecturer in stage design on behalf of the Goethe Institute in Brazil. In 1996 he had a teaching position for theater studies at the University of Mainz. He was honored by Theater heute as young talent and set designer of the year; Several invitations to the Theatertreffen Berlin, the South American Theatertreffen in Sao Paulo, the Theatertreffen Moscow and others followed.
