The Etex Group SA is a group of global industrial companies that are active as manufacturers and distributors of building materials .

The group-leading holding company Etex Group SA is headquartered in Brussels in Belgium and is closely associated with the company Eternit GmbH , which is also known in Germany , the so-called Eternit panels and the asbestos problems arising from them .

Company history and events

Since 1905 there has been strong growth, in particular through activities in the fiber cement sector , leading to production facilities on various continents and diversification through investments in the manufacture of proven and the development and production of new building materials. The holding itself emerged from Eternit Belgium in 1995 , after Eternit not only converted its fiber cement products to a new technology, but also reorganized its activities and corporate divisions as a whole.

In December 2008 and at the beginning of 2009, the Federal Cartel Office imposed substantial fines totaling € 188 million on Etex Holding and its subsidiaries Creaton AG and Pfleiderer GmbH and on seven other companies in the clay roof tile industry for participating in anti-competitive agreements on clay roof tiles. In 2006 almost the entire industry agreed to raise prices by 4-6% by levying a so-called "energy surcharge".

In 2011, Etex took over the majority of the European and South American gypsum activities of its French competitor Lafarge and bundled these with its own activities under the new company and brand name "Siniat". Lafarge holds 20% of the shares in this joint venture.
