Ulrich Khuon
Ulrich Khuon (born January 31, 1951 in Stuttgart ) is a German dramaturge and artistic director . He has been President of the German Stage Association since 2017 .
Training and professional positions
After graduating from high school, Khuon first studied law and then went on to study theology and German studies, which he finished with the state examination . He came to the theater through his work as a theater and literary critic, which he carried out from 1977 to 1980 for the Badische Zeitung in Freiburg . In 1980 he got his first engagement as chief dramaturge at the Stadttheater Konstanz , before he took over the management of the house from 1988 to 1993. From 1993 to 2000, Khuon was director of the Schauspielhaus Hannover and in the 2000/01 season he succeeded director Jürgen Flimm at the Hamburg Thalia Theater .
In the 2009/2010 season, Khuon took over the management of the Deutsches Theater Berlin from Bernd Wilms , whose contract expired in 2008.
Teaching
In 1997, Khuon was appointed professor at the Hanover University of Music and Theater .
Memberships
Khuon has been a member of the jury for the Else Lasker Schüler Dramatist Prize since 1998, and has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts and the board of directors of the German Stage Association since 1999, and is also a member of various juries promoting young actors and directors. Since 2002 he has chaired the committee for artistic questions in the German Theater Association and was Secretary General of the European Theater Convention (ETC) from 2002 to 2005. In 2004 he was appointed to the Theater / Dance Advisory Board of the Goethe Institute . At the spring general meeting of the Berlin Academy of the Arts on May 25, 2013, Khuon was elected as a new member of the performing arts section. From 2011 to 2016 he was chairman of the directors' group of the German Stage Association, and he was elected President on January 24, 2017.
Private
The actor Alexander Khuon is Ulrich Khuon's son. The dramaturge Nora Khuon is his daughter.
