Wilfried Schulz

Wilfried Schulz (born May 26, 1952 in Falkensee ) is a German dramaturge and theater director .

Life

Schulz studied theater studies , political science and German at the Free University of Berlin and the Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris .

From 1976 to 1981 he worked as a university assistant at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin , before joining Peter Stoltzenberg at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg as a dramaturge , where he helped found the Heidelberger Stückemarkt . From 1986 to 1988 he worked as a dramaturge at the Staatstheater Stuttgart under artistic director Ivan Nagel .

From 1988 Schulz was chief dramaturge at the Theater Basel under the directorship of Frank Baumbauer . He followed Baumbauer in 1993 to the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg , where he worked as chief dramaturge until 2000, primarily with directors such as Jossi Wieler , Cesare Lievi, Axel Manthey, Frank Castorf , Harald Clemen , Johann Kresnik , Matthias Hartmann , Karin Beier and Anselm Weber . During this time, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus received numerous invitations to theater meetings and festivals such as the Berlin Theatertreffen , the Mülheim Theatertage and the Bonn Biennale, and was also named Theater of the Year several times . From 2000 to 2009 Schulz was acting director and managing director of the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover .

Between 2009 and 2016 he was artistic director at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden , before moving to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in 2016 .

Schulz received teaching positions at the Universities of Basel and Hamburg and published a number of publications on theatrical topics, including on Christoph Schlingensief's theater .
