Hermann Röbbeling (* 31 October 1875 in Stolberg (Harz) , Prussia ; † 4. June 1949 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian theater intendant .

Life

From 1915 to 1932, Röbbeling worked successfully on the financial consolidation of the Thaliatheater and the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg . From 1932 to 1938 he was director of the Vienna Burgtheater , where he implemented numerous innovations (cycle "Voice of the Nations in Drama", engagement of the actors Hermann Thimig , Maria Eis and the directors Ernst Lothar and Herbert Waniek ). He opened up new audiences for the Burgtheater through repertoire design and advertising. With the annexation of Austria to the National Socialist German Reich, Hermann Röbbeling was immediately relieved of his office and Mirko Jelusich from the National Socialist State Cultural Office under the direction of Hermann Stüppäck in close agreement with the Ministry of Education of the Seyß-Inquart government headed by Oswald Menghin with the provisional management of the Burgtheater entrusted in Vienna.

Röbbeling is buried in the urn grove of the Simmering fire hall in Vienna (Department 1, Ring 3, Group 9, Number 22). His grave is one of the honorary dedicated or honorary custody grave sites of the City of Vienna.

In 1961, Röbbelinggasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him. His son was the screenwriter and director (stage and film) Harald Röbbeling .
