Herbert Waniek

Herbert Waniek (born October 17, 1897 in Vienna ; † May 11, 1949 there ) was an Austrian director and actor .

He was the son of Rudolf Waniek , who was a household goods dealer and purveyor to the court .

Herbert Waniek had his first directorial work in 1921 at the Deutsches Theater in Brno , and in 1922 at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna. In 1924 he worked as an actor at the Vienna Theater in der Josefstadt under the leadership of Max Reinhardt .

In 1926 he co-founded the "Theater des Neuen" and worked as a director of matinee performances of modern dramas in the Theater in der Josefstadt. He switched over and in 1927 was an actor, director and senior director at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . In 1930 he became senior director in Essen, and in 1931 he returned to the Zurich theater. From 1933 to 1949 he was director at the Burgtheater with a total of 66 productions.
