Kurt Raeck

Kurt Paul Raeck (born July 30, 1903 in Berlin ; † July 10, 1981 there ) was a German dramaturge , actor , theater director , film director and theater manager .

He studied German and theater studies at the University of Erlangen . In 1928 he received his doctorate on the subject of The German Theater in Berlin under the direction of Adolph L'Arronges . He then worked first as an actor and later as a dramaturge on various German theaters.

From 1930 to 1933 he was co-director of the Berlin theater and the Lessing theater . From 1933 to 1936, together with Ernst Legal, he ran the Hebbel Theater in Berlin , which at that time was called Theater in Saarlandstrasse . From 1936 to 1944, he held the position of managing director at the Schillertheater under Heinrich George .

In 1946 he took over the management of the Renaissance theater , where in the same year Heinz Hilpert achieved a great directorial success with John van Druten's Das Lied der Taube . In 1964 he also took over the management of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg as the successor to Willy Maertens . In 1969 he handed over the management of the Thalia Theater to Boy Gobert . After almost 33 years, Raeck handed over the management of the Renaissance theater to Horst Mesalla in May 1979 .

Raeck's repertoire ranged between classical theater and upscale boulevard theater . During his time at the Renaissance Theater he worked with numerous well-known actors, including Käthe Dorsch , Walter Franck , Ernst Schröder , Elisabeth Bergner , Lucie Mannheim , Albert Bassermann , Curt Goetz , Hilde Körber and Aribert Wäscher .

Kurt Raeck died in Berlin in 1981, just three weeks before his 78th birthday. His now orphaned grave is in the Dahlem forest cemetery . (Dept. 27 U d 35b)
