Courtney Thorne-Smith (born November 8, 1967 in San Francisco , California ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Thorne-Smith attended Tamalpais High School and Menlo-Atherton High School and studied acting at the Ensemble Theater Company . She starred in the television series Melrose Place from 1992 to 1997 and in the television series Ally McBeal from 1997 to 2002 .

She won the 1999 Screen Actors Guild Award for the role of lawyer Georgia Thomas in Ally McBeal . In 1998 and 2000 she was nominated for the same award.

From 2001 to 2009 she played alongside James Belushi and Kimberly Williams-Paisley in the television series Jim Again and again . She then took on the role of Alan's ( Jon Cryer ) friend Lyndsey in Two and a Half Men for six seasons .

Thorne-Smith was married to geneticist Andrew Conrad from 2000 to 2001. On January 1, 2007, she was married to media entrepreneur Roger Fishman. Their son was born on January 11, 2008.
